FAQ: The Big Questions
Is Control Resonant a sequel to Control?
Yes. It's set about seven years after the events of the first game, follows a paranatural crisis consuming Manhattan, and features a direct continuation of the Faden family story. It's a proper sequel, not a spin-off.
Who is the protagonist of Control Resonant?
Dylan Faden — Jesse Faden's brother and a former Hiss host with immense resonance powers. In Control Resonant, he wields the shapeshifting Aberrant weapon and searches for Jesse, who has disappeared under circumstances the story slowly reveals.
Do I need to play Control first?
No. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen has said the sequel is built to stand alone — new players can follow Dylan's story without playing Control, the AWE DLC, or Alan Wake 2. Playing the original enriches the experience, but it's not required. Our beginner guide has a three-second lore primer if you want a head start.
When does Control Resonant release?
September 24, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), and Mac (later in 2026). PS5 players with any pre-order get 48-hour early access starting September 22, 2026.
What platforms is Control Resonant on?
PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam + Epic Games Store) at launch, with a Mac version arriving later in 2026. There are no announced PS4, Xbox One, or Switch versions.
How much does Control Resonant cost?
$59.99 for the Standard edition and $69.99 for the Deluxe edition. See the pre-order guide for the full comparison.
How long is Control Resonant?
Around 30 hours for the main story, and about 50 hours to see everything, per lead designer Sergey Mokhov. A full New Game+ cycle pushes total playtime to 60–100 hours.
The Aberrant & Combat
What is the Aberrant weapon?
The Aberrant is Dylan's signature shapeshifting melee weapon — the sequel's answer to the Service Weapon. It has five forms: Dual Blades, Axe, Scythe, Whip, and Heavy Hammer, each with a different moveset and role. Full breakdown in the Aberrant weapon guide.
Is the Aberrant a gun?
No. The Service Weapon from Control was a shapeshifting gun. The Aberrant is a shapeshifting melee weapon with five combat forms you swap between instantly in combat.
What is the Gap system?
The Gap system is Control Resonant's stagger mechanic. Enemies have a Gap meter that depletes as you land hits; when it breaks, they're staggered and vulnerable to finishers. Fast forms (Dual Blades, Whip) drain the Gap; heavy forms (Axe, Hammer) punish the break. It's the core rhythm of every fight — details in the combat systems preview.
Can I respec my build?
Yes. Respec is a confirmed first-class system, reportedly free or near-free at safe zones. You can redistribute Aberrant form mastery and resonance ability points without penalty.
Is there New Game+?
Yes. Control Resonant launches with New Game+, carrying over form mastery, resonance abilities, and map/collectible progress, with exclusive rewards on repeat cycles.

Story & World
Is Control Resonant connected to Alan Wake 2?
The Remedy Connected Universe ties its games together loosely, and Control Resonant sits in that shared universe. However, Remedy has said the sequel is built to stand alone — you won't need Alan Wake 2 context to follow the main story.
Is Control Resonant multiplayer or co-op?
No. Every indication points to a strictly single-player experience, consistent with Remedy's design history.
Where does Control Resonant take place?
In a warped Manhattan, overtaken by a paranatural crisis as a new resonance-based outbreak consumes the city. The game's open areas are the largest Remedy has built.
What happened to Jesse Faden?
Jesse disappears early in the story, and uncovering what happened to her is a central mystery that drives Dylan's journey. We're keeping the full explanation spoiler-free until launch.

Remedy's in-house Northlight engine, the same engine family behind Control and Alan Wake 2.
What is the age rating of Control Resonant?
A final rating hasn't been formally listed for all regions, but based on the series' content — paranatural violence, body horror themes, and mature atmosphere — expect an M (ESRB) / PEGI 18 equivalent.
Will there be DLC after launch?
Remedy has not announced post-launch DLC plans for Control Resonant. Given the company's track record, expansions are plausible but unconfirmed.
